Su nombre real es Peter Gean Hernández y nació el 8 de octubre de 1985 en Hawai. En 2004 se mudó a los Ángeles y allí comenzó su carrera musical.
Antes de ser artista fue un conocido productor musical y escribió canciones para muchos famosos como: Flo Rida, Alexandra Burke, Travis McCoy, Adam Levine, Brandy y Sean Kingston.
Su música es famosa por tener gran variedad de estilos (pop, reggae, R&B, rock, soul, hip hop...).
Mars ha recibido muchos premios por sus videoclips y su música.
